We are very excited to add a Stand Up Paddleboard category to the River Race and to the Little Tybee Challenge. We have had requests over the past couple of years as the sport has grown so this year we will add the SUP Open category with awards given for Overall and Masters and male/female.
Please pass the word and let's get folks with paddleboards in the races, too.

Happy July!
Hope you are all finding ways to survive this super hot weather, maybe paddling in the mornings and evenings? The light is so beautiful at those times.
Please see the last post for lots of big news including our first year with a title sponsor, Fortune Recycling, and the return of the drawing for the kayak and paddle donated by Half-Moon Outfitters.
Finally, the REGISTRATION and SPONSOR FORMS are available!!!!!! Thank you, Kathryn, for the help. Go to the forms link to download.
I had promised more about the classification system we will be using this year. Please go to the race info tab for details on that. We are adopting the system used by Sound Rowers (of Puget Sound) but modified for the Blackburn Challenge. They use a waterline length to width ratio as the measurement for classification. The reasons for this change for the Tybee races include an effort to create congruence as much as possible with the other races in the SE Paddlesports Series we have joined. And honestly, I have contemplated this system or other classification methods for some time now. So we will experiment with this system this year. If you go to www.soundrowers.org you will find a listing of kayaks they have already classified. Please note we are using the Blackburn Challenge ratio modification which uses a 11.5:1 as the cut off between fast sea kayaks and high performance kayaks instead of the Sound Rowers ratio of 10.99:1. Thanks for your patience as we make this change. If you do not see your boat on the list, please contact us ahead of time or bring the waterline length and width measurements from the manufacturer of your boat to the race. Thanks.
